Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is continuous spouting?

Continous spouting is produced using a rolled coil of material which is fed through a mobile machine which we take to your place so that we can manufature on site, where the spouting is to be installed.  By using a mobile machine, we can get the lengths exactly right for your home or building and thus avoid having to have any joins other than at the corners.

Q. Why are joins so bad?

Joins invariably sag, split, leak or hold water (all risks that you want to avoid as this is how damage to your fascia and home can start).  Continuous spouting is also more economical than traditional methods, as you are only paying for exactly what you need - so there is no wasted spouting offcuts to be paid for.

Q. Does continuous spouting expand or contract?

We call this the "expansion and contraction myth" in that there is expansion and contraction, but it's not as extreme as most people think.  The main influence is weather and changes in weather conditions

Q. What is the best order to do things in if I need new spouting and my roof needs painting?

Paint the roof first because then any overspray lands on the old spouting. Once the old spouting has been removed then paint the fascia and put the new spouting up.

Q. Can I get a ballpark figure or a per metre rate over the phone?

The best thing to do is to get in contact with us so that we can come out and give you a free, no obligation quote as there are a lot of different variables when quoting for spouting and downpipes. It depends on things like how many angles, stops and drops there are, whether the house is two storey or not, how far out of town the site is, etc.

Q. How often do we have to maintain the spouting?

There is a 10 year Guarantee on the Colorcote spouting but this is not valid if the spouting and downpipes are not keep clean and free of debris and leaves, etc. We recommend that you clean out your spouting and downpipes every six months. The spouting needs to be cleared of debris, leaves, etc then washed down with clean water and a soft-bristle brush. If you are not comfortable doing it yourself then call your local branch. It must be done on a regular basis to meet the terms of your warranty.

Q. Do I need to repaint the spouting and downpipes?

Because we use colour steel the paint has been baked on and therefore does not have to be painted or touched up. This gives it an extremely durable paint system that resists UV damage and provides excellent gloss and colour retention.

Q. Can I have colour steel downpipes if I have rainwater tanks?

If you are going straight into the rainwater tank then this is fine but if you are going down the wall and into a sealed storm water drain then you must use PVC downpipes because they have to be sealed.

Q. Are there different styles of spouting?

Yes, we offer pre-painted steel, aluminum and copper spouting which is continuous. We also offer other types of spouting which are not continuous including PVC spouting.

Q. Are there different sizes and profiles of spouting?

Yes, there are different sizes and profiles dependent on your requirements.   Click on the link to see more from our product range or click here to contact us if you want to discuss further.

Q. Are you insured?

Yes, we are fully insured. Certificates of insurance can be provided upon request.

Q. How long will it take to install new spouting?

Job times vary from one project to the next. It may take a few hours or a couple of days. Most residential projects are completed in one day.

Q. How soon can you do the installation?

Generally the job can be done within two weeks after the proposal has been accepted.

Q. Do I have to dispose of my old spouting?

No, after the job is completed, our crews clean the work area so as not to leave a mess. The spouting & downpipes that were removed from your house are loaded in our truck and disposed of properly. We believe that you should not see anything of our work when we are finished except the clean lines of your new continuous spouting.

Q. Do you accept credit cards?

Yes, we accept MasterCard and Visa.

Q. Water is building up in my spouting. Do we need more downpipes?

This question is often asked but the answer is not a simple yes or no.  This depends on the age of your house. If it is older, there is the possibility that your house has settled on its foundations or the spouting may have been installed incorrectly originally.

If it is a new house the roofing calculations may have been done wrong originally, then maybe you do need more downpipes.

It may be that you just need your spouting cleaned and your downpipes flushed out.
